The COI assists in identifying the orientations that an individual will have when in a career and the anchors that will drive their orientation. The Career Anchors are based on the work of Edgar Schein and consist of eight career anchor themes. The anchors can enable people to recognise their preferences for certain areas in their job which can help career planning. People are generally more fulfilled in their careers when they can satisfy their career anchors and seek roles that are aligned with these.
